I'm always looking for new projects to start on the farm. Diversification of our small farm is one of our goals. I'm attracted to projects that result in a unique and high quality end product that people will truly enjoy. Growing Shiitake mushrooms on hardwood logs fit that criteria so I decided to jump in this year. I did my research, bought the necessary supplies and tools, found a source for the hardwood that I needed, built a processing table and inoculated 100 logs over the last few weeks. It took many hours of work and I can't wait to start seeing mushrooms start popping out of these logs next year.
Please consider supporting small scale local agriculture in your area you will taste the difference.
